SERI® is often referred to as a surgical scaffold. This is because SERI® helps weak tissue stay in place as it heals. This product is often used in breast surgery when tissue is weak, stretched out, or has lost some of its natural underling support. It helps give support and can help repair malpositioned implants if they have shifted over time due to weak tissues. SERI® surgical scaffold is made from a bio-protein that slowly gets absorbed by the body over time. Once absorbed it leaves behind a strong supportive tissue. SERI® is also being used in cases of recurrent capsular contracture to keep the capsule soft and prevent hardening of the breasts. SERI® is not limited to use in the breasts and can be used anywhere where surgical outcome relies in tissue strength. Recovery can vary from 2-4 weeks depending on the extent of surgery. Your surgeon will discuss the options as well as risks and possible complications associated with the use of the SERI®.
